The workshop we created to help owners help their horses

Understand Your Horse Like Never Before

Ever wondered why your horse finds one rein harder, struggles with lateral work, or finds certain movements more difficult? Or why saddle fit can have such a huge impact on how your horse moves?

Our Painted Horse Workshop is designed for horse owners and riders who want to understand what’s happening underneath the skin and how it affects movement.

🎨 We’ll paint the horse with key anatomical structures and muscles, so you can actually see what’s working as your horse moves.

🐎 We’ll then put the horse through movements including lunge work, lateral work and pole work, explaining which muscles and structures are under tension, what they’re doing, and how this can relate to the difficulties you may be seeing in your own horse.

💪 We’ll also demonstrate groundwork and strengthening exercises, showing you which muscles each exercise targets and how you can use them to help your horse develop strength, balance and better movement.

So, if you’ve ever asked:

“Why does my horse find one rein harder?”
“Why can’t my horse bend laterally?”
“Why does saddle fit matter so much?”
“Why does my horse struggle with this movement?”

…we’re here to help you understand why — and, most importantly, what you can do about it.

Come and see movement, anatomy and rehabilitation come to life. 🐴🎨💪

Meet Your Hosts

The workshop is delivered by Lana and Aimee, Veterinary Physiotherapists at Recharge Veterinary Physiotherapy.

Between us, we have extensive experience assessing horses of all disciplines, treating performance and rehabilitation cases, and helping owners better understand how their horses move.

We're passionate about making anatomy approachable and giving owners practical knowledge they can use every day—not just during the workshop.

Event Details

📅 Date: Saturday 12th September 2026

🕚 Time: 11:00am

📍 Venue: Fairy Hall Animal Feeds, Rayne, Braintree

💷 Price: £35 per person

👥 Spaces: Strictly limited to just 10 attendees to keep the session interactive and ensure everyone has the opportunity to ask questions.

Using a live painted horse demonstration, we'll bring equine anatomy to life, helping you understand what's happening beneath the skin and how this influences the way your horse moves, performs and feels.

Whether you're a happy hacker, competitive rider or simply love learning about horses, you'll leave with practical knowledge that you can apply every time you ride or handle your horse.

What You'll Learn

This isn't a veterinary lecture full of complicated terminology.

It's a relaxed, interactive workshop designed to make equine anatomy and biomechanics easy to understand.

Together we'll explore:

🐎 Equine Anatomy

Discover the major muscle groups involved in movement and performance, and learn what each muscle actually does.

Understanding how the body is designed to work makes it much easier to recognise when something isn't quite right.

🐎 Posture & Compensation

One of the biggest misconceptions in the horse world is that if a horse isn't lame, they're fine.

We'll discuss how horses compensate for weakness, discomfort or restriction, why compensation patterns develop, and the subtle signs owners can look for before problems become obvious.

🐎 Biomechanics in Action

Rather than simply looking at diagrams, we'll show you how muscles work during movement.

You'll see how different exercises activate different muscle groups and gain a much better understanding of how movement influences strength, posture and performance.

🐎 Groundwork Demonstrations

We'll head into the arena to demonstrate simple groundwork exercises and explain:

  • Which muscles they target
  • Why they're useful
  • When they may (or may not) be appropriate

By seeing anatomy in action, everything starts to make much more sense.

Why Does This Matter?

A better understanding of anatomy helps you become a more informed horse owner.

You'll be able to:

  • Recognise subtle changes earlier
  • Make more informed decisions about training and management
  • Know when it may be appropriate to seek professional advice

Our aim isn't to turn you into a physiotherapist.

It's to help you understand what your horse is telling you.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This workshop is suitable for:

  • Happy hackers
  • Dressage riders
  • Eventers
  • Show jumpers
  • Endurance riders
  • Pony Club members and parents
  • Coaches and instructors
  • Equine professionals
  • Anyone with an interest in equine anatomy and movement

No previous anatomical knowledge is required.

We'll explain everything in a practical, easy-to-understand way.

What Happens on the Day?

Your session will last approximately 1.5 hours and includes:

  • Live painted horse anatomy demonstration
  • Groundwork demonstrations showing muscle activation during movement
  • Saddle application and discussion
  • Plenty of opportunities to ask questions
  • Tea, coffee and an informal chat afterwards

You'll also receive printed anatomy diagrams to take home so you can make notes throughout the session and continue your learning afterwards.
