Why physiotherapy?

The benefit of veterinary physiotherapy has become increasingly recognised following the success of human physiotherapy.

This is because like humans, animals suffer from musculoskeletal problems which can cause pain such as back pain, muscle tension, joint stiffness and overall imbalances.

This causes discomfort and can make animals reluctant to be as active as usual, reducing their quality of life.

The aim of veterinary physiotherapy is to optimise functional, pain free movement.

Physiotherapy uses a range of research based treatments to address many of the causes of musculoskeletal pain in both acute and chronic conditions to increase comfort and quality of life whilst reducing the risk of further decline or injury.

Vets recognise the huge benefit of physiotherapy – that’s why they highly recommend it post injury, post surgery and in conservative management of long term conditions such as osteoarthritis. It is also vital for working or performance animals to maintain peak form.

Physiotherapy could help:

Reduce pain, including back and neck pain

Reduce joint stiffness

Increase muscle strength/mass

Increase flexibility

Reduce muscle tension

Promote relaxation and wellbeing

Optimise tissue healing

Reduce the risk of secondary joint disease

Improve performance
